We have spoken to Unity Insurance today regarding the cover on Scout buildings and contents during our period of suspension of face-to-face Scouting.

They have helpfully shared this link and explanation with us, which will be of use to Groups that have buildings or contents insured by Unity.

If you use another insurance provider then we suggest that you contact them ASAP to find out if your policy is affected during this time.

What we have changed effective immediately

Under the ‘Warranties’ section of our Property and Equipment policies, if you are unable to comply with the checking of properties or equipment due to being unable to travel for any reason as a result of Coronavirus (COVID-19), these warranties will not be enforced during this current outbreak as defined by the UK government.

Unlike traditional UK commercial insurance policies, our Scout and Guide property and equipment does not have an unoccupancy time limit (commercial insurance usually requires a building to be occupied within 30 days) and we understand that the current outbreak (as defined above) may prevent access to Scout and Girlguiding properties for some time in excess of the standard 30 day period. To reiterate, your policy terms and conditions will not be affected if you are unable to attend your building for any reason as a result of Coronavirus (COVID-19).
