On Wednesday this week, Mafeking Scouts visited the Khedrubje Kadampa Buddhist Centre in Hull as part of their World Faiths activity badge. We had a very calm and contemplative evening learning a little bit about the origins of the Buddhist faith, the practices and beliefs, the Buddhas and their teachings, the offerings and retreats, and then finished with an attempt to meditate and focus on our breathing – it was very difficult not to get distracted and to stay focused on just the one thought.
Never have the troop been so calm, quiet and attentive, and for so long. Now the leaders know the Scouts are capable of such great things they’ll be keeping their fingers crossed that they do it more often and that it wasn’t just down to the tranquil atmosphere of the centre.
