Come along to the information evening to find out more about the County’s Alpine Adventure in 2021!
Please share details of the evening with your Scouts’ and Explorers’ Parents & Guardians.
The Wolds Challenge is a one day hiking competition for Scouts and Explorers organised by the Fells Marathon Committee. This event is a test of navigation, route finding and team work, as well as a walking challenge. This is also a great training event for our sister event; The Fells Marathon.
The event is open to both Scouts aged 10.5 years to 14.5 years & Explorer Scouts ages 14.5 years to 18 years. Different routes will be set for each age group. The Scouts will approximately walk 12 miles whereas the Explorers will walk 17 miles.
We advise that all teams/groups should cover training in:- navigation, hill skills, rucksack packing, what to do in an emergency, working as a team. It is also advisable to have a training walk before the event.
The maps for this years Wolds Challenge are:
- 294 – Market Weighton and Yorkshire Wolds Central
Any groups needing maps for this year’s event, these can be purchased from www.dash4it.co.uk at very cheap prices.
If you have any questions or need any advice please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

- Sunday 26th April 2020 – usual timings.
- £7.50 per under 18 year old, which includes all activities.
- For this event please indicate your expected numbers as near as you can so we can make sure we use all of the £7.50’s on booking in climbing walls, silent disco’s, inflatables and lots more!
- Payment will be collected on the day so if you bring a slightly different number this is what you will pay for.
- Any late payments (i.e. not paid on the day) will incur a 10% late fee.
A chance for Young Leaders to gain a First Response certificate which covers the requirements of Module K for the YL Scheme. This qualification can also be carried over to their Adult Leaders Training.
Only Module K will be delivered on Saturday at this weekend.
Please arrive at 9:00am to book in. The training will start at 9:30am prompt and finish at 4:30pm.
After Module K has been delivered on Saturday we will be having a social evening which everyone is welcome to stay for. Young Leaders are also welcome to camp over on the Saturday night.
Young Leader training is now offered free of charge to all Young Leaders. However, you still need to book and the County reserve the right to make a charge of £10 per person for any places booked where people do not turn up or cancel prior to the weekend.
WHAT TO BRING
Everyone will need a packed lunch with them for Saturday and refreshments will be served throughout the day.
If you would like to camp over then you will need to provide your own camping and sleeping equipment. Breakfast will be provided on Sunday morning for those that stay over.
Please wear something comfortable for taking part in the training and your necker.
As normal any Young Leader is welcome to drop in over Saturday to ask for help with their Missions or to have them signed off if they have finished them.
We are now using an online system called Online Scout Manager to easily coordinate all our admin for Young Leader Training. It is a safe, secure and GDPR compliant system that saves Leaders a lot of time and it also saves a lot of paper. This system also has a portal for Parents/Guardians to access and provide us with all the details we need, without having to complete any paper forms.
If you have booked onto a Training Weekend through OSM before, then you will receive an email inviting you direct from OSM.
If you haven’t booked on to a YL Training weekend through OSM before, then parents should email email@example.com with your young person’s name, date of birth and their Scout Group. We will then send you a link to access the portal. Please note, this email must come from a parent, not the Young Leader.
Please continue to check the County Website for updates.
