GSLs and Group Contacts will be asking Section Leaders to submit their information for the annual census return in the coming weeks.

There are some changes this year along with some additional pieces of information that will be collected:

  • We no longer need the names, addresses and DOBs for each member of your Section. POR has been amended to reflect this and to make sure we comply with GDPR. However you are still expected to keep a record of this within your Section and record how you keep this information on this year’s return.
  • There are multiple options for the Ethnicity and Additional Needs data, so please read these carefully to see which category applies to any of your young people.
  • Any Young Leaders that help at your Section (D of E or Explorers) MUST be recorded on your Section’s return.
  • There is now a question asking who has gained top awards within your group. This question is being asked as programme is key to our 2018 strategy and beyond. The gaining of top awards is the strongest KPI to do this. If a Young Person has gained their Chief Scout Bronze award in the last year and is now a Cub or has left Scouting, the information still needs recording against the Beaver Scout ‘page’ return. And this applies through the other sections too.
  • If you use Online Scout Manager (OSM) your return should be a ‘doddle’ as the aggregator tool along with other reports you can pull off will do the work for you!

Also, a reminder that membership fees are £38.00 per Young Person this year. This is split: £26.50 to HQ, £8 to County & £3.50 to District. Payment will be taken from Groups at the net values. District will add the amount to ‘gross it up’ before sending to County. However if you pay late you will be fined by District, as District will not receive the gross to net refund going forward!
